Hi Sam, I thougght that the 'club scene' thing was wicked, I liked how
the smoke and lighting work together and think it goes real well.. the
slow mo was also cool but maybe a bit too extreme and deep for a music
video??? not sure!
hope it helped,

WHAT I THOUGHT ABOUT THE FEEDBACK:
After recieving this advice from my Focus Group, I was happy with all of the planning and research that I carried out and was confident our ideas would appeal to our target audience. The only bad comment I recieved was that the slow motion post was abit tense for a music video, and so we have taken this advice on board, and have taken out this small point in the music video.

Shot Lists

Some of our shot lists are below so we will be as organised and efficient as possible when filming on the shoots we have arranged:

This is a shot list we have developed of the first 30 seconds:

Choreography/movements and blocking

Another effect that we have looked at is the 'Post Scene.'
For this we want the post to drop to the floor, and as it hits the floor we want the music to start, however, we want it to be slow motion as it drops to add effect. As this sounds very technical we wanted to try this out to see if it worked. We did this on Adobe Premiere Pro too, and before slowing the whole thing down we decided to cut just where the post was falling, and just slow that bit down, again to make a more professional finish.
I have saved the file as a FLV File and converted to my YouTube Page, the video can be seen below:

Choreography/movements and blocking

TEST SHOTS TAKEN MONDAY 17TH DEC
'CLUB SCENE'

We are going to be filming our club scene in the Games Room where I live, a photograph can be shown to the right:

As you can see by the picture, the room does look like a modern bar however our aim is to get this to look like a club, and therefore we have got a smoke machine, strobe light and lasers to try and make this effect look as professional as possible. (I personally own all of this equipment). The aim of this is to see what lighting works, and what doesn't, and in particular to see whether our focus group thinks it is a good idea - and it works with the song.

As shown below are 3 of the clips that we took-

1.
2.3.

As you can see we have numbered each video, 1, 2 and 3. All of the videos have the same sort of effect, with a girl spinning/dancing around to make it look like she is in a club. As you can see in shot 1 the lighting is slightly darker and I think this is the best one as you can see her, however the flashing lights aren't too sharp or crazy. Number 2 however has the strobe light, and not much lighting so it is very dark, as the shutter speed on the camera isn't as quick as the strobe light this causes problems, as you can see, as you can see black lines throughout. Number 3 hasn't got this problem, however it does have lighter lighting, and so you can see the girl clearer. Because of this, I think 1 and 3 are the best however I left my focus group to decided and I had a group vote, my findings are below:

Video 1 - 5
Video 3 - 1

My results showed that the majority preferred the first video and so I edited this on Adobe Premier Pro to show what it would look like with the music, at the correct time, I also slowed down teh speed by 50% so it went in time with the music, at a more professional pace.

In our actual video we plan to fill the room with people to get a very professional club look. (the pictures after represent the bedroom scene that comes after this shot.)

Time Management

Unfortunately, Jess is ill today and so she can't make the photo-shoot, as Grace has still offered to help me, we are still going to go ahead with the photo-shoot meeting at 16:00 at my house.

Time Management

Today I booked out a Panasonic HDC-SD900 Video Camera from the WSFC media department for Monday, which is tomorrow. Me and Jess plan to take a few test videos of some of our shots, so we can test out some effects and see if they work or not. For example the 'club' scene and the slow motion post scene.
We also plan on taking pictures of some of the locations we plan to use in my house, and so as the video camera is 14.2 mega pixels we are using the same camera to take the pictures.

We have arranged to meet at my house at 16:00.
We have also allocated one of my friends, Grace,to be in some of them as Milly is busy on the Monday we plan to do this. The confirmation of this is shown below:

We are picking up the camera from the media office at 13:00 ON Monday and returning it at 11:00AM on Tuesday morning.

Organisation of location/permission

In our music video we plan to have a selection of different locations so the music video looks professional  and is exciting to watch, so to not bore our viewers. Therefore we have considered a range of different locations which we may use.

One of the main locations will be in my house-
LOCATION:
Hurst Cottage
The Hurst
Cleobury Mortimer
DY14 8EG
WORC

Various parts of my house will appear in the music video, for example the video will commence in my kitchen with  Milly making coffee, she will then walk in to the hall. My lounge will also be used in the video to create a'club' affect, by using smoke effects and lighting effects such as lasers. The bedroom is also going to be in the video, as Milly will take somebody there. We also have a 'games room' out house which will appear in the video as it has a pool table/bar effect, and George will be here. Obviously to film in these locations I won't need permission as it is my own home, however I have emailed my mum to confirm that this is OK. The email can be seen below:

Hi Rach,
I would just like to clarify that we have permission to use the house when filming our music video for our A2 Media Studies course work this year.
If you could send me an email confirming this, then that would be great. I will specify the date at a nearer time however it is likely to be early Jan. We will happily use the house when you are not present so to not disturb you.
Kind Regards,
your loving daughter, Sam, and friend, Jess.

We plan to use 5 different location in my house, as talked about above. These will be the Kitchen, the hall, the bedroom, the lounge and the games room. Below, we have taken a photograph of all of these locations to get the image of what it will be like. By having these images, this means that we can also have a good idea of angle shots, and different ideas that we can come up with throughout the process.

Milly Pain lives at the Cleobury Golf Club which is approximately 10 minutes from my house, this means that she will need some form of transport when arriving at the destination; therefore we have looked at a selection of transport options so that she will be present whenever we need her. Firstly, we have done some research into the bus timetable near the local area and there is a bus which picks up right outside of her house, and drops off right outside of mine, the bus is the 292, and the timetable can be shown below - we have sent Milly this timetable so she can refer to it when making plans to come to my house. (I have highlighted the times that the bus will drive past her house, and we will notify her with details of this when we have arranged to film).

If the bus is a problem, she has also said that her parents would happily drive her to my house if we arrange a time and date for this, however this needs to be done near the time. Me and Jess both have a valid driving licence and will happily pick her up if she has no other option to get to our house.
Either way there are many options that we have thought about and so she will always have a route to the location.

George Lives in Cleobury Mortimer in a house which is located approximately 2 minutes walk from my house, which is the location many of our shots will be filmed. To make this clearer, I have print screened and edited the two houses on Google maps to show both our houses to put into context how close they are. As shown, George's house has a blue circle around it, and Mine has a red. Therefore, with the short distance between us it will be very easy for George to get to my house at any time whether we need him in short notice or not. George also has a valid driving licence and a car to make this even easier, if we decide to film at a location further away, at a later date.

Because of all the research that we have done regarding the two main cast members in our music video, we believe they are both very easily accessible and so they will be reliable throughout this process, therefore they were both an excellent choice and we feel very organised and positive when discussing the dates and times.

We are also planning to film some shots on the street, in the dark to get a shot looking something like the one to the right (which we print screened from Ed Sheeran's video, the A team - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAWcs5H-qgQ)

It will ideally be black or white, the street we are going to do this on is Cleobury Mortimer High Street because this is a nice, quiet street and so we won't interfere with pedestrians too much, there are also many street lights so we will be able to capture the natural lighting. A practice shot of this will be updated ASAP. Below is a photograph of the street that we will be using when our actress will walk across the footpath.

As this is public property, we don't need permission to film in this location.

Prior to the event we will be completing a full, detailed risk assessment that will be accepted by a member of WSFC staff and therefore we will ensure that each location we plan to use will be safe, and there will be no health and safety issues - photo's of us at the locations doing the risk assessment will be done near the time of filming.

Audience Feedback

After writing up who we'd cast to be in our video, (which can be seen on my previous blog post) I sent the link of my blog to each member of my focus group so they could look at the people whom we are going to have in the video asking them for some negative or positive feeback on our decisions, I've also asked them if they think we could ask any body else to be in the video which may improve it. Below is the email I sent, and the emails that I received:
In this instance, I got 2 replies -

Hi Guys, This is the very first email to all of my focus group!! :)
Basically, what I'm going to do is email you all when I've updated my blog with new things, and then ask you to have a quick look, and let me know what you think. I don't want any of you to worry about offending me at all, write whatever you think! If it's good, bad, you think there could be any improvements, any ideas, anything to criticise - literally ANYTHING.
So, here's the link to my blog - http://sammslingsbymedia.blogspot.co.uk/
I have just updated the 'Performance and Casting' post - let me know what you think about who we've chosen.
Thanks!!!

Performers - casting

When casting people for our music video we realise as a team that it is important to make good choices, ensuring everybody that we use is reliable, and so they won't let us down throughout the process, as with no star act, the music video won't be a success and it could cause various errors such as missing deadlines. They also have to be desirable, and so they need to fit the role in what we need, for example if we have a pop girly song, there is no point getting an old man to lip sync. Finally, they need to be available in the time period that we wish to film.

Firstly, we have decided that we wanted the singer of the song 'Over Night' which is George Bills to appear in the video as he has a good stage presence, is very confident and the main thing we want him to do is the lip sync part in our video. As he is the writer and performer of the song, he knows it very well and we feel that this will be very beneficial for our music video. As the song means a lot to him, it will also look very sincere and real, we hope that this will create a relationship with our audience and they will feel exactly what he is trying to say within the song, which is what we want to achieve by the video.
We asked George, firstly if we could use the song, and secondly if he would appear in the video, we did this by text, (which is shown below) and then later talked to him face to face when we took the pictures for our Digi-Packs for further conformation.

A copy of some of the text messages can be seen to the right:
He later agreed that we can use him in the video as we explained all we really wanted him to do was sit and sing the song so we could use him for our lip sync exercise.

When we saw him whilst taking photographs for our digi-packs on the 20th November, we had a quick talk about what he had to do, where, what he had to wear etc. Below are the minutes which I have wrote up after the meeting -

George: so what do you actually want me to do then?
Sam: basically all you need to do is, like sit and sing that's literally it, its because we need to have an aspect of lip sync in our video and because you know the song well and you have experience in singing it and so will be very confident and things with it, you'd be the perfect person to do that. And obviously the voice is your voice, and so it would match.
George: yeah i get you, yeah I could do that I guess!
Sam: cool! We would be filming January sort of time so are you available round then?
Jess: yeah like probably near the start, but we'd have to do a few different days so that we can capture everything that we need for the video.
George: Yeah well I'm out of work at the minute and with Christmas coming up I doubt I'll be employed by Jan so that's freaky with me guys
Sam: haha, goodo!
Jess: yay! We were thinking of doing it partly in your house, and partly in Sams, however we will probably do some parts outside too
George: well Sam lives next door to me so that's cool and easy, the outsides bit are okay too but man i better haver a jumper.
Sam: Oh my god ino, we won't make you wear any crazy costume, don't worry, if I'm honest your usually gear is probably fine as we want to capture as much as the artists personality and image as possible, but we will get to the finer details and let you know if we want any particular dress code nearer the time.
George: El presco lets do this
Jess: I'm excited!!

The transcript above shows George agreeing to appear in our video whilst maintaining the 3 suitable thing that we were looking for in our performers, availability, describable and reliable.
On the right we have taken some photographs of George -

As you can see there is a dark theme in these photographs and this is how we plan to use him in the music video, as there will be quite a dark theme throughout. In some we have altered the lighting by using a yellow LED light, by adding a yellow gel, and we quite liked this effect as we thought it gave his face a nice glow, we also like the bottom photo as it shows his emotion in the shot, which we hope to get across frequently in the video.
We have also looked at some photographs of George singing, so we can get an idea of what he is actually like when performing and to the left are some of the images that we found and thought we could incorporate in our music video.

As you can see he is holding a guitar in each of these and he is very devoted to his music, therefore we think that he will be perfect for this part of the music video. We will get him to hold a guitar in many of his shot, playing it as well as singing as this is the actual performance element of our video.
George is a very friendly guy and he is very reliable and so we are sure he is a very safe option to cast him in our music video. He is Jess Kelly, (who is my partner in this task) close family friend and so we both know him very, therefore we have no issue of parent consent of legal issues when filming with George as we socialise with him in our spare time, outside of college anyway.
George has quite a scruffy appearance, and we hope to keep this element of him in the video as relating back to artists in the same genre of ours, that we looked at in our research, like Ed Sheeran, they prefer to stay quite scruffy and 'normal' in their videos so their singing is noticed more than their star image. We plan to entwine this in our music video. George has just finished university at Bournemouth and so is currently out of work, therefore he is available most of the time and will happily be available when we require his assistance. Fortunately George lives in the same small town as me, which is Cleobury Mortimer and so he will be easily accessible to us if we ever need him on short notice. As George writes his own songs, and is extremely talented on the guitar, and at singing, he is the perfect person for us to use in our music video, as he is so talented, we trust that his performance in our music video will not disappoint.

In our music music video, the narrative is about a boy and a girl who have broken up and the girl get's really upset and goes a bit of the rails, therefore the boy is singing about the girl. Most of the music video will be focussing on the girl's story, with some small inputs from the guy - (George).
Therefore, the second person that we needed to cast is the girl in our music video - for this, we had two options, and we weren't sure which to use - Below are two pictures, showing the two different girls:

On the left, we have Milly Pain, she is a close friend of mine and she went to the same school as me and Jess, she also lives in Cleobury which would make her a very suitable candidate for our music video, however there is a 2 minute drive to her house, as she is currently in part-time education Milly has a lot of free time and so she would be easily accessible if we needed her at short notice, Milly is a very pretty girl and her and George suit quite well and so I think this would make the music video look very believable and sincere which is what we are trying to achieve by the video. Milly has a part time job at the golf club in town and so she is very friendly and good to work with, she is very reliable, and I trust that she wouldn't let us down with this project, she also has a keen interest in music, especially in acoustic tracks as she also plays the guitar and has a beautiful singing voice, therefore she has had many recent gigs at local pubs.

The second girl that we are considering is Corrine Broome, she is also very attractive and so she may be somebody who would appear in many videos, the downfall we had on Corrine is that maybe acoustic isn't the right sort of genre music video that would suit her as she is in to drum and base and other sorts of music. This aside, Corrine lives in Cleobury too, however she only lives 2 minutes away frommy house so she would be easier to reach that Milly. Corrine is also very reliable and she has a keen interest for media and as she is taking the course herself she would be very devoted to our task, and she would put her all into making sure this music video is a success.

As we are torn between the 2 girls for our music video, we decided to ask our focus group which girl they thought would be more ideal - we put the results into a tally, and the results are below:

MILLY PAIN                                      ////     4
CORRINE BROOME                        //       2

As the results show, 4 people thought Milly would be better to use, and only 2 people thought Corrine would be better to use, therefore, with this in mind, we have decided to ask Milly to appear in our music video; a conformation of her agreeing to this is shown in the print screen of the text below -

We also had a face to face meeting with Milly on the 25th November at my house where she agreed to be in the video - I transcribed this below:
Sam: Milly! I need to talk to you about our music video.
Milly: Oh my god yeah what's going down?
Jess: well, you 100% keen to do it?
Milly: yeah i'll do it for you
Sam: okay fab, basically all you have to do is simple things, you'll be fine
Milly: okay cool, when?
Sam: it'll be sometime earlly Jan probably, may take more than one shot though so be prepared!
Milly: haha okay well I have no plans in Jan so sounds good
Sam: perfect!

Having 2 girls who would be suitable in the video is good for us as a team, as if something were to go wrong with Milly we still have some one who is willing and appropriate to fall back on - hence as a team we are very prepared for any potential problems.

Contact Numbers/Details for each member of the cast and team are stated here, we thought that it was important to get the details of all of the important people within the process, so they can be easily contacted throughout the music video task:
